This 12 minute record was released in 1972 and although it had been recorded by the ‘Undisputed Truth’ only a few months previously, this version by the Temptations proved to be the enduring classic. The Temptations are one of the world’s most successful groups having spanned 40 years in the business.

Much of Motown’s success came from a particular kind of beat – it didn’t often matter what the lyrics were actually about. This is an exception of course, it tells a story and at the same time grabs your music buds. You cannot take away anything from the Temptations, but the writers at Motown were just unbelievable.
