Only reaching number 45 in the US charts in 1964, “Needle in a Haystack” by the Velvelettes was far from their most notable single with Motown. They are better known for their version of “He was really sayin’ Somethin” which made the R&B charts at number 21 in 1965.

Check out the Velvelettes page – there is a terrific uTube video playing this very track. I never knew about the Velvelettes as a group, but I definitely know the song. That’s the thing about a lot of the Motown stuff I guess, their hits were so popular at the time that they got tremendous airplay – at the time and in the years that followed.
