In the summer of 1966, Motown released ‘Can’t hurry love’ by the Supremes. It became a number one hit, featuring Diana Ross as lead vocal with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson on backing vocals. Subsequently, it was covered by Phil Collins in 1983, when it reached number one in the UK.

Younger people may well only have heard this done by Phil Collins, but when I was young, the Supremes just couldn’t go wrong. Hit after hit it seemed to be and of course – those choreographed routines that might seem a little bit cheesy now but which were typical of so many of the Motown stars of the day (and we loved them)!
