In 1981, Motown released “Being with You” by Smokey Robinson. It became a number one hit in the UK, but did mark the end of his singles success in the British charts. It was also number two in the US. It was the title track of his album of the same name. Smokey had few other solo hits however which were completely eclipsed by the body of work he created with the Miracles.

Smokey was probably more successful as a writer than as a performer. That said, he had solid gold instinct with the Miracles and whilst he never duplicated that as a solo performer, there were undoubtedly some gems like this one.
