The song that knocked “Let it Be” (Beatles) off the top spot in 1970. ABC was written by Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Alphonzo Mizell and Deke Richards. This was the first single from the Jackson’s second album. A mixture of traditional ‘Motown sound’ and ‘bubblegum soul’ it was one of a series of Number 1s for the group.

I’m not a Jacksons fan personally – but there is no doubting the contribution made by the Group to Motown’s success. Sad really that Michael became the oddity that he did in later life. His career rather overshadowed his brothers as a consequence, although they do seem to be enjoying something of an revival.
